One day in Larnaca can take you from the old town around Saint Lazarus Church to Larnaca Castle and the seafront, with time for a museum along the way. This central walking itinerary ends at Finikoudes, a palm-lined promenade and beach that runs between the marina and the castle.

  • Start: Church of Saint Lazarus and its surrounding square.
  • Waterfront stop: Larnaca Castle, about a 3-minute walk from Tuck Inn, makes an easy stop on this walking route from Tuck Inn.
  • Museum option: Pierides Museum or the Archaeological Museum of the Larnaka District.
  • Finish: Finikoudes promenade and beach, a 600-metre stretch in central Larnaca.
Start around the Church of Saint Lazarus

Start around the Church of Saint Lazarus

Begin your Larnaca walking tour around the Church of Saint Lazarus, then make your way toward the waterfront and Larnaca Castle. This keeps the day focused on central sights before you settle in for a museum visit or a longer stop by the sea.

The church also has a link to the city’s museum history: Larnaca’s Archaeological Museum was first housed in a room there. Its collection later moved to the city’s Ottoman-period castle, before the present museum was established.

Walk to Larnaca Castle and the seafront

Larnaca Castle sits at one end of Finikoudes, making it a natural link between the old town walk and the waterfront. From there, continue toward the promenade and beach, the landmarks covered in this guide to Larnaca Castle and the seafront.

Add a museum or central cultural stop

Add a museum or central cultural stop

A museum stop gives you a quieter break between the old town and the seafront. Choose the Pierides Museum for a collection spanning ancient and medieval periods, or the Archaeological Museum of the Larnaka District for finds from the town and surrounding district.

Pierides Museum

The Pierides Museum is housed in the Pierides family’s colonial-style ancestral home, built in 1815, at Zinonos Kitieos 4. Its collection ranges from objects dating to 4000 BC through the 15th century AD; highlights include Early Bronze Age red polished ware, Roman glassware and medieval ceramic dishes. Greek and Cypriot sculptures are displayed in the courtyard.

Visit Cyprus lists opening hours for the Pierides Museum as Monday–Thursday 09:00–16:00 and Friday–Saturday 09:00–13:00; the museum is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Admission is €3 for adults, €1 for students and €2 per person for groups of more than 10. Hours and fees can change, so check the official site before you go.

Archaeological Museum of the Larnaka District

At Plateia Kalograion, this museum has two wings: one covers the prehistory and proto-history of Larnaka town and district, while the other presents finds from their historical periods. It is open Tuesday–Sunday 09:00–16:30, closed Mondays and public holidays, with free admission. The entrance has a chair lift, and the museum provides an accessible WC and a parking space.

Finish along Finikoudes promenade

Finish along Finikoudes promenade

Finish the day on Finikoudes, a 600-metre-long palm-lined promenade and beach in central Larnaca. Larnaca Marina stands at one end and Larnaca Medieval Castle at the other, so you can follow the waterfront between both landmarks.

The beach has toilets, showers, changing rooms, sunbeds, umbrellas, a beach bar, and access paths and paving. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for a fee. A floating wheelchair is free to use with lifeguard assistance, and boat trips leave from the adjacent pier. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first-aid services are stationed at the beach from June through October.

You can get to Finikoudes by bicycle, bus or car; municipal and private car parks serve the area. Europe Square and the Seafront Stage host cultural events, bazaars, markets and sporting events. The Larnaca beaches guide covers more of the coastline beyond this central stretch.
